Mabel Kathryn Powers was born in Le Sueur, Minnesota in 1905. She earned her B.A. in 1925 from the College of St. Catherine (St. Paul, MN), her M.A. in 1947 and Ph.D. in psychology in 1955 from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Powers joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1947, after serving as a rehabilitation counselor for amputees in Navy hospitals during World War II (1943-1946).
